Presumably the goal of the Constitutional Assembly Council is to make educated decisions about what the new constitution should look like.  The Constitutional Council’s website has an ‘extensive database’ (víðfemt gagnasafn), which is extremely thin on anything having anything to do with how constitutions and political institutions work.  In addition it barely includes any non-Icelandic material, thus, largely ignoring the fact that there is a lot of literature on political institutions out there.  So here is a short list of required readings [.pdf].  It is not by any means complete – it is more a random list of things that I thought someone writing a constitution should probably read and is, therefore, far from being exhaustive.  Below are some additional readings (I was too lazy to enter the bibliographic information).

If you have suggestions of readings that should be added to this list, drop me a line: indridi.indridason@ucr.edu
